Professor Mu-la Na, graduated from The Central Conservatory of Music, and started her cello teaching career at that institution. In 1994, she served as principal cello of the Asian Youth Symphony Orchestra. In 1995, she was the first prize winner and the Best Chinese Piece Performance prize winner at the First China National String Quartet Competition. In 1996 she was a guest artist teacher at the Mid American String Music Festival. She is a frequent adjudicator at national cello competitions in China. Prof. Na has performed concerts in China, the US, Canada, Japan, France, the Philippines, Switzerland, and Hong Kong. Her students have won numerous awards at cello competitions both in China and internationally, including the First Prize at the 4th Tchaikovsky International Youth Cello Competition and the First Prize at the Davidov International Cello Competition in 2006. Prof. Na’s teaching and performances are well known in China and are regularly featured in Chinese media such as CCTV, China Daily, Music Week, China Youth Daily, Beijing Evening News, and Beijing Radio. Among her many awards and recognitions are: winner of Excellent Professor prize of the 4th Tchaikovsky Youth Cello Competition; winner of China National Baogang Education prize; several times winner of Excellent Teacher prizes and Advanced Individual in Education prizes awarded by The Central Conservatory of Music; Best Cello Teacher at China Children Art Performance Competition in 2004; Excellent Teacher prize in the 6th China National Youth Professional Cello Competition in 2008. Her guest teaching includes: Morning Side Music Bridge Program, hosted by Mount Royal College in Canada, since 1997; and Beijing Foren Music College. Prof. Na is a Member of the Standing Committee and General Secretary of the China Cello Association. Prof. Na is currently the Director of the Cello Department as well as Professor and Post-graduate supervisor at the Music School Attached at The Central Conservatory in Beijing, China.
